Louisiana Department of Insurance – Fortified Grant

Louisiana residents must endure various extreme weather conditions throughout the year, including hurricane-force winds. To protect residential roofing systems in the area, the Louisiana Department of Insurance has introduced the Fortified Grant program.

Through this program, the state grants up to $10,000 for homeowners to upgrade their roofs. The purpose of the Fortified Grant is to help LA homeowners strengthen their roofs to better withstand the elements. The benefits of Fortified roofing systems include stronger edges, sealed roof decks, better attachment, and impact-resistant shingles.

Read below for more specific information regarding program eligibility:

  • This program is only eligible for your primary residence. You must verify if you have a homestead exemption on your property if you are selected for the grant.
  • You must provide proof of an active residential insurance policy (with wind coverage). If you live in a Special Flood Hazard Area (as designated by FEMA, then you must also provide proof of a flood insurance policy.
  • Newly constructed homes do not qualify.
  • Homes on unrestrained stacked masonry or stone foundations are not eligible without an approved retrofit of the foundation.
  • Home must be in good repair.
  • The homeowner must be able to pay evaluation fees.
  • If you begin this process without approval, you won’t be able to get approved in the future.
